“PARENTING LIKE A GARDENER OR A CARPENTER?”

These are two metaphorical concepts to describe two schools of parenting proposed by a Psychology Professor (University of California, USA). According to this metaphor, “carpenter” parents often set a certain goal and model for their children in mind, outline a path and shape their children to achieve that goal. Therefore, children often have few opportunities to experience diversity, rarely try, rarely make mistakes to learn from those experiences.

As parents, we see each child as a seed, a different plant, with its own needs and completely different ways of being cared for and nurtured. It is the parents’ job to create the best ecosystem and environment for each child to freely develop in their own way.

Each different plant species has its own environmental and care needs, which only a dedicated gardener can understand and meet so that the plant can grow in the best way. Children are the same, each child has their own potential and passion, always needing to be discovered and nurtured properly.

Workshop “TEACH YOUR CHILD LIKE A TREE” with the participation of Parent Coach Tu Anh and Ms. Nguyen Minh Thuy – Head of International Program at UTS. At the workshop, we will discuss the necessity of respecting and recognizing the differences in each child, and at the same time learn more about appropriate methods to help create the best environment for each child’s individual development.

    • Audiences: Parents interested in modern parenting
    • Time: 9:00 – 11:30 AM, Saturday, 08/01/2021.
    • Location: US Vietnam Talent International School

UTS hopes that through this exchange, parents will gain many new perspectives and useful information for their journey of nurturing their “seedlings”.
