HISTORY 4.0 – THE SEEMINGLY BORING SUBJECT BECOMES MORE INTERESTING THAN EVER!
Research of Master Tran Vu LinhUS Vietnam Talent International School Teacher The subject History was often considered quite boring, “difficult” for many students because the amount of knowledge to remember is quite “massive” as well as the characteristics of the subject is difficult to associate with modern reality. Therefore, the teachers of History are constantly exploring and improving new and interesting teaching methods to help students acquire knowledge more effectively. And at UTS, the History teacher has implemented a very unique method: “Applying the art of shadow play in teaching History”. The application of shadow play to teaching, especially the teaching of History in high schools is very new. US Vietnam Talent International School is the first international school in Ho Chi Minh City to pioneer the introduction of shadow play into teaching history and initially achieve encouraging results. The project “Applying the art of shadow play in history teaching” was implemented for the first time in the 2020-2021 school year with the participation of 34 students in grades 10 and 11. After 2 months of implementation, the students completed four works with the content of two themes: “Resistance against foreign invaders from the 10th-15th century” and “World War”. These are the first works, which uts teachers and students devote a lot of enthusiasm and investment both in form and content. Although the knowledge and experience of shadow play is still limited, the products the students create are still extremely impressive and convey the story and historical context as the theme. The goal of the learning project is to both stick to the standard of knowledge, while aiming to build an exciting training space for History and learn the specific skills of shadow play. Therefore, while writing the shadow play script, the students need to ensure the following

“Hands-on” methodology – Excite creativity and help children enjoy learning
In recent years, the education sector in general and schools have made great efforts to reform the quality of teaching and learning in the natural sciences. With the teaching philosophy of putting Students at the Center”, the US Vietnam Talent International School has applied the method “Hands-on” at the high school level to help students be independent, creative, take initativesinitiatives and solve problems. Besides, this method also helps teachers improve the quality of teaching. “Hands-on” methodology is the way the teacher organizes for students to self-study to find solutions to the knowledge in the curriculum through proposing, discussing, and performing experiments. The steps to organizing classes according to this method include: Stage 1: The starting situation and the question raises the issue. Teachers will proactively set a starting or questionable situation as a starting point to the lesson. The foreboding circumstances are brief, close to students and practice making questions raises the issue at the same time. Problem question which is the big question of the lesson itself (or module of knowledges that students will be taught) need to ensure suitable to students’ level, arouse curiosity and researching interest of the students to equip them with studious psych sphere before perceiving sciolism. Teachers should use open questions instead of closed ones (Yes-No question) in terms of problem questions. It also must meet all the requirements that were mentioned before, so that the teaching scheme of the teachers will be more successful. Stage 2: Expressing the beginning opinions of students In this stage, teachers will encourage the students to express thoughts and raise their awareness before learning new things. To raise the starting conception from the students, teachers can request their students to remind the previous lessons that alike with knowledge of the current lesson. When requesting students to express the started awareness, students can

“Love Giving” Stories-telling Project
May 15th is selected by United Nations as the International Day of Families when family members can connect to each other and raise awareness about families’ issues. At UTS, we also have a family of big sisters, brothers in High School and lovely younger ones in Primary School. UTS-ers always take care as well as help each other if necessary, without distinction of age. The “Love Giving” stories-telling project is an activity which helps strengthen the connection among students at UTS. Students of Primary School usually listen to stories told by their Parents before sleeping. To bring the familiar and cozy feelings to Primary School students, Grade 10 UTS-ers visited classes, spent time telling short stories and then gave mini gifts to their juniors before the sleeping period. This project helped UTS-ers prove event organizing, presenting and detailed planning skills. Besides, this is an occasion for UTS big family to take care of each other which proves the contribution spirit – one of six core values of UTS-ers.

Reading – Awaking knowledge and nurturing children’s inner soul
Nowadays, for people to keep up with the world’s continuous developing pace and become a knowledgeable, helpful citizen, reading has become a bridge connecting our current knowledge to the outside world. Reading is a pathway for students to form their self-learning conscious and retrieve knowledge in the best way possible. From there, our young generations can develop lifelong learning skills and promote a great mentality. However, with our Technology and Society’s extensive development on the rise, consistent reading habits from people are starting to decrease. Social media is a contributing factor competing against the norms with their catchy interfaces, it is like a breath of fresh air to the young generations. The youngsters experience the ease, spontaneity and latest news on these apps, all of which makes the reading-from-a-book habit seem boring and soon to be forgotten. Understanding this current perspective, UTS’s Primary teachers’ team is holding a range of activities to elicit and bring out the joy of reading for the students. Each week, students get excited about the Reading session in the school’s library. This seems like “a new land” for students to seek adventures inside the books’ pages. With our project “Connecting knowledge”, students have gone through many interesting, beneficial activities to nurture their love for reading. 1. Designing Bookmark activity: With the theme of “Inspiring” through every book page, students designed their own creative bookmarks, along with positive, encouraging messages to themselves. In addition, UTSer’s is also shown their creativity and ingenuity through each funny and cute product. 2. Designing Book cover activity: In this activity, students are able to select one of the choices: recreating the cover of their favorite comic or designing a new cover for a storybook they have read before. Experiential Learning: When learning is not only from book
At UTS we believe that every kid is a “unique seed” who deserves to grow up in his or her own way. We understand that our students need to be given the opportunity to learn in a way that is suitable for them while also respecting the differences in styles from our peers. Besides, not everyone is keen on traditional learning method. This motivate UTS to apply the “Experiential Learning”(ExL) to the curriculum, providing an alternative to traditional learning models, and here we will share many highlights of the “Experiential Learning” method with parents and students. 1. What is Experiential Learning? At its simplest, experiential learning (ExL) is the process of obtaining information and learning through experience, and can be further stripped down to simply be “learning through reflection on doing” (Patrick 2011: 1003). Unlike the ” hands-on learning “, ExL formally requires reflection, whereas hands-on learning is simply the act of doing something. ExL theory is different from other theories of learning, such as cognitive and behavioral learning, insofar as it is a much more holistic approach. It takes into account all of our experiences in our learning, including emotions, cognition, and environmental factors. It advocates for more depth in learning, rather than surface-level learning. Surface-level learning involves things like studying for an exam or memorizing information from a textbook – often this information is not retained well and is easily and commonly forgotten after the test. In contrast, deep learning typically involves learning a topic from multiple angles and approaches, from reading and experimenting to role-playing and discussion. 2. How the ExL model works? Operational model of the “Experiential learning” method 2.1: Experiencing: This can be a completely new experience or a re-imagining of an experience that has already happened. In each specific experience, you will each participate

So what is the best space for your child? Let’s discover here. Benefits of a suitable environment for children Many research on children around the world have proven that children living in a good environment will have more comprehensive physical and mental development. For example, a living environment close to nature creates conditions for children to increase physical activity, reduce eye diseases, obesity, respiratory or mental disorders. This is the reason motivating us to build Botanique Campus – a green school with open space and close to nature. Besides, the open living space with experiential activities is the premise to promote the intellectual development of children. Limiting exposure to electronic devices and instead having parents and children experience practical activities in art or scientific research will help children develop creativity and flexible thinking. So what is a suitable environment? Here are six important environmental factors that affect a child’s growth: 1. Ensure security and safety Children’s nature is curious, they like to discover new things, so sometimes just because a few minutes of parents’ neglect, there will be situations that affect the safety of their children.
