[Humans of UTS] – UTS Homeroom Assistance Agent: “I love UTS’ students as my own kids!”

At UTS, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students are specially taken care by the Homeroom Assistance Agent. Our little students are the ones who are still unfamiliar with the new learning environment. The support and guidance of the teachers are stepping-stones for them to gradually adapt to school and develop their own abilities. Talking about her work, Mrs. Hong Quyen – Grade 2 Homeroom Assistance Agent shared: “Every morning, I accompany UTS-ers on the school bus. All students’ activities at school such as learning, eating and other personal needs are closely monitored and helped if necessary. My working day just ends when all the children have returned home safely after a day studying at UTS.” In the classroom, students are equipped with both academic knowledge and soft skills. Then outside, there are also special “teachers” who are ready to instruct them about the simple activities in life. Ms. Thanh Dan shared: “Although I am responsible for supporting Grade 1 students with personal activities at UTS, I always try to let the children gradually learn to be independent and actively complete the tasks. If they depend on me too much, they will have a hard time without my help when they get older.” “This job is hard, but it brings us a lot of joy. We love UTS’ students as our own kids. Therefore, we always strive to make them feel happy at school. During these days when UTS-ers had to study at home because of the pandemic, we miss them so much. We just hope the pandemic will be over in the next school year so that we can continue this special job!” – shared Mrs. Quyen. Each member of UTS family tries to nurture future talents to bring them the most comprehensive learning and playing environment. Let’s say

“She has completed the 1st Grade at UTS beyond our expectation”

Miss Thanh Nhan, Mother of Tue Minh – student of Class 1.5 has shared about the changes and growth of her daughter after a year learning at US Vietnam Talent International School: “Tue Minh is quite a shy girl while interacting with adults. She is very confident to make acquaintances with peers but somehow shy to communicate with her teachers. However, after a year UTS, she already has some positive changes. When Tue Minh acknowledges that she will be taught by other teachers in Grade 2, she expresses: ‘I will miss my old teachers so much, but no one can teach me forever in my life!’ Her thinking satisfies me since she knows that anyone should be independent, she needs to change to learn from more people. In long term, I hope that she can understand that the world will always change and we all need to adapt to it. Tue Minh understands that ‘we go to school to learn what we don’t know yet’. Therefore, while studying at UTS, she can freely give answers for questions without feeling ashamed. ‘Mr. Casey will never criticize me with the wrong answer, I just need to raise hands and express my ideas!’, said Tue Minh. I am really happy when she tells me that other teachers also apply the same teaching methods. I believe that she will more confident and be ready for new things without failure disappointment. Regarding the progress in knowledge, besides the standards of reading, writing and doing simple Math exercises like other Grade 1 students, she usually tells me about other knowledge from school that beyond my expectation. While enrolling at UTS, she has never studied at any language center. But now, she confidently teaches me how to add and subtract numbers, explain the stories she draws, and

Accompanying children in the environmental protection journey

June 5 is designated by the United Nations as World Environment Day. This is an opportunity for us to raise awareness for the community and take active actions to protect our environment. Environmental protection is a long journey which cannot be done within one or two days. It requires us to have responsibility, patience and especially understanding so that we can act properly to the surrounding environment. How can parents help children understand more about environmental protection and encourage them to take good actions towards sustainability? Let’s have a look at following suggestions from the US Environmental organization (Environment America). 1. LEARN ABOUT PLANTS – Explore interesting information about the Earth, plants and animals and their current status through books, television and Youtube videos; – The whole family can create beautìul pictures with dried leaves and flowers; – Take advantage of the balcony (for high-rise buildings and apartments) and the open space (for ordinary houses) to plant a small garden of lovely flowers and trees; – Play games to learn the origin of the foods we eat every day and how they are cultivated and harvested. 2. LEARN ABOUT WATERWAYS, PARKS AND CONSERVATION The water, air and land environments are factors that need to be nurtured and preserved. Parents and childredn can research on many issues such as: – Learn about the system of rivers, lakes, canals and canals in the neighborhood; – Learn about water pollution and some ways to reduce it; – Explore the role of parks, forests and tree planting in reducing air pollution and flooding; – Learn about the role of natural reservation; – Learn about types of soil in nature and their current condition. 3. LEARN ABOUT WAYS TO REDUCE WASTE Waste is one of the most urgent problems that need to be solved

UTS-ers “recycling” project: Reduce waste to help increase the “age” of the Earth

3R stands for Reduce – Reuse – Recycle. Applying the 3R method in everyday life will help reduce the big amount of waste discharged into the environment, especially persistent waste. It can help to limit pollution as well as reduce overconsumption. The students in grade 5.1 practice the 3R method through the project “Recycling” in English subject. Using used items, UTS-ers took advantage of and created interesting models such as UTS bus, pen box, hat,… They also show their fluent English and presentation skills to introduce the group’s products. Although this activity is not too new, it is extremely necessary for children to early create awareness of environmental protection, saving resources, and contributing good values to society.

Unique applications of “little programmers” at UTS

Nowadays, with the development of technology, we are familiar with convenient applications on smart phones. However, is the idea generation and development of such applications possible for our students? Let’s join the English lesson of Class 6.3 to see how they generated innovative ideas! By actively researching, thinking, UTS-ers suggested many modern as well as familiar ideas for applications such as homework solving app, fashion consulting and direct purchasing app, or lego assembling instruction app, etc. These rough ideas were just express on the paper, but students showed their dedication in planning detailed operation way, interface design or distribution on online app platform. Moreover, all contents in these applications were built in English, aiming to develop them on a global scale. Hope that UTS-ers will always maintain the creative energy and make these interesting ideas become real in the near future!
